Meet Mike Deasy

Early on, Mike Deasy knew he lacked the talent to actually practice the professions of architecture or design. But under the early influences in the 1960's of his teacher Vincent Scully, the writings of Esther McCoy and Jane Jacobs, and the works of LeCorbusier, Gerrit Rietveld, and Bertram Goodhue, he knew that his zeal for architecture would infuse whatever profession he would eventually enter.

After brief stints as a city planner and non-profit housing developer, Mike became a real estate broker and headed up Deasy Penner Podley and an earlier firm of Mossler Deasy and Doe, real estate firms specializing in marketing homes of the most significant architects of the 20th and 21st centuries - architects such as Irving Gill, Frank Lloyd Wright, Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Gordon Kaufman, Ray Kappe, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Wallace Neff, and Greene and Greene.

In addition, while at Deasy Penner Podley with George Penner and Joshua Gaunya, Mike established a new development division that sold such notable condominium conversions as the El Cabrillo, Vista del Arroyo, and 940 East 2nd Street. True to its mission, the division also specialized in new, multi-family projects by contemporary architects such as Steven Ehrlich, Michael Sant, and Lorcan O'Herlihy.

Today, after selling Deasy Penner Podley (DPP) to Compass, Mike and his team continue the tradition of representing culturally and historically important homes and projects throughout the Los Angeles Basin. "Our offerings become their own inspiration for buying or selling," Mike says. "Our job is to spread the enthusiasm they engender."

Mike was born in Southern California and graduated from Loyola High School, Holy Cross College, and Yale University. A grandfather currently lives in Rustic Canyon in a house designed by Harwell Harris for John Entenza. During his fifty years as a real estate agent or broker, he has been president of the Beverly Hills Board of Real Estate Agents, The (CLAW) MLS, a director of the California Association of REALTORS®, chair of the Los Angeles Conservancy, and a director of the Santa Monica Conservancy.
